The Ten Seed Groups
Hierarchy sanctioned in 1931 the starting of experimental seed groups. These new groups were to become focal points of training for group integrity and cohesiveness. The results demonstrate to the watching Hierarchy the extent to which disciples can subordinate their personalities to the greater good of the group and how sensitive they can be to guidance and instruction.
“It is essential that members of these groups have a wider vision, their membership in any of the groups constitutes an act of service while they are rendering to the work which I and other members of the Hierarchy are carrying forward under the Plan. The individual disciple must not look upon his work as a marvellous opportunity for his own spiritual advancement. All true disciples are equally distinguished by a determination to make the groups successful and all are longing to get as much out of the group work as possible” DINA 1 pg 102
The true motive for membership in such groups is an act of service and not for any personal advancement.
“The groups are intended to work together eventually just as the various departments of a great organisation work effectively together as a unit. They must function smoothly and intelligently within themselves and also in their inter-relation with each other. This will become possible when the individual members in the groups and the individual groups of disciples lose sight of their own identities in an effort to make this hierarchical work possible. In this type of group work, the feelings, reactions, wishes and successes of the individual most emphatically do not count.” (ibid.)
The over-riding objective is the group effort to enrich the group consciousness. If we want these groups to fulfil their intended purpose, we are to lose sight of ourselves, personally and consider only the welfare of the groups as a whole.
To become a true disciple requires sacrifice of the personal life. A greater will is at work in all hierarchically inspired projects and that Divine Will calls for the obedience and even negation of the lower personal will. It is the true formation of group consciousness.
The Seed Group structure proposed by the Spiritual Hierarchy of our planet includes ten fields of service with their own assigned tasks.
The Ten Seed Groups, as outlined in DINA 1 include the following:
TELEPATHIC COMMUNICATORS
People receptive to impression from the Masters and each other, custodians of group purpose, working largely on the mental plane.
TRAINED OBSERVERS
Seeing clearly through all events. Working on the astral plane at dissipating glamour, bringing illumination to humankind.
MAGNETIC HEALERS
An intelligent transmission of energy to facilitate mental, emotional and physical healing – through the right circulation of force. They must not work as individuals but as units in a coherent whole.
EDUCATORS OF THE NEW AGE
Emphasis is upon the building of the antahkarana and the use of the mind in meditation. They act as transmitters of two aspects of divine energy – knowledge and wisdom.
POLITICAL ORGANISERS
Work in the world of human government, dealing with the problems of relationships between nations, and the bringing about of international understanding. The work embodies the method whereby the divine Will works out in the consciousness of races and nations. (Note: working to strengthen the momentum toward greater understanding and cooperation between the representatives of nations in the United Nations forum would seem appropriate here)
FIELD OF RELIGION
Their work is to formulate the universal platform of the new world religion, a work of loving synthesis and unity of spirit. (An office held at present by the Christ).
SCIENTIFIC SERVERS
Revealing the essential spirituality of all scientific work motivated by the love of humanity and its welfare. Equivalent with the development of etheric vision and the enlightenment of the fact of reincarnation under the Law of Rebirth.
PSYCHOLOGISTS
Based upon the seven ray types and the new esoteric astrology. The transmission of the energy of ideas (as in an explanation of the seed thoughts of the monthly zodiac meditations).
FINANCE AND ECONOMICS
Dealing with the Law of Supply and Demand with a greater emphasis on the principle of sharing. This principle must govern economic relations in the future.
CREATIVE WORKERS
These are communicators relating Divinity to Life. Spiritually inspired creativity, synthesis by demonstration of new forms of culture and civilisation, including the 10 seed group structure. The arts based on active goodwill, which leads to right human relations.

The 10 seed-groups
Seed groups are in process of being "esoterically anchored" in the field of the world, having in them those who can respond to the subtler forces and who can–through the strength of their clear thought at this stage of the proceedings–produce those conditions (within the present existing world trends and world groups) which will enable the new sciences, the new approaches to divinity, the new education, and the new modes of handling the economic situation and the political problems, to precipitate and further the growth of the Kingdom of God in such a manner that this fifth kingdom in nature may be a tangible, factual and objective occurrence upon the Earth.

These seed groups are embryonic and therefore, like germinating seeds, their activity is at present dual. Every seed demonstrates its life by putting out two outward evidences of its internal life and activity, and these seed groups are no exception to this universal law. Their activity is evidenced in a relation to the Hierarchy and their relation to each other. Not yet have they succeeded in emerging into outer plane activity. Their inner life is not adequately strong, but they are, as says the scripture, "taking root downwards" in order to "bear fruit upwards."
Should these groups develop as intended, should the corporate life of the members persist in right integral relation and should continuance be their keynote, then these seed groups, tiny as they may be, will come to flower, and–through an eventual "scattering of the seed," succeed finally in "covering the earth with verdure." I am speaking here in the language of symbolism which is, as you well know, the language of truth.

The seed groups now in process of forming will be distinguished by the quality of fusion, and this should be as inevitable a development as is the separative and protective nature of the ordinary human consciousness. It is this sense of union and of at-one-ment which is the protective and essential characteristic of the fifth kingdom, and it is this latent, yet actively present, factor which leads unerringly and inevitably to the organisation–interior and subjective–of the seed groups, to their radiatory activity, and to the magnetic pull they evidence when duly organised. Thus they produce fusion and blending.
The influence of these new groups is due to the close inner relation demonstrated through uniform thinking and a recognised unity of purpose. It is for this reason (a truly scientific one in its nature) that I have emphasised so strongly the ordinary characteristics of the trained disciple, which are non-criticism, sensitivity and love. Where these are lacking, this simultaneous oneness and directed thought and this "group aroma" (as it is esoterically called, though the word I am attempting to translate is more adequate than the above) become impossible. I have not been interested in the elimination of hindering faults for the individual's sake, but for the carrying forward of the desired group purposes. The need is for group thinking of a powerful nature along the indicated lines; for visualisation of the Vision of such a clear nature that it becomes a fact for the individual; for the development and functioning of the imagination, applied to the lines of outcome and results, and functioning so creatively that the results are seen with clarity and must inevitably materialise. It involves also the holding of the inner subjective link with each other with such firmness that potent centres of force and of creative energy–working under inspiration from the Hierarchy, via the focussed minds of group members who are definitely en rapport with their souls and with each other–may function so successfully that the new civilisation and the new culture can be rapidly established. As this has to be founded on a basis of loving goodwill and upon nondestruction, and as its methods lead to right relations between men and nations, it is essential that the establishing groups should themselves express the subtler aspects of these desired virtues.

THE TEN GROUPS ARE AS FOLLOWS :
Seed Group 1: Telepathic communicators
These people are receptive to impression from the Masters and from each other; they are the custodians of group purpose and, therefore, closely related to all the other types of groups. Their work is largely on the mental plane and they work in and with thought matter and with the reception and direction of thought currents.

Seed Group 2: Trained observers
Their objective is to see clearly through all events, through space and time by means of the cultivation and use of the intuition. They work very largely on the astral plane at the dissipation of glamour, thus bringing in illumination to mankind. Thus another type of energy is brought into play, producing another type of inter-relation and communication.

Seed Group 3: Magnetic healers
These healers have no relation to the work of the so-called magnetic healers of today. They work intelligently with the vital forces of the etheric body. This group of healers must bring about the right healing of the personalities of individuals in all aspects of their nature.

Seed Group 4: Educators in the New Age
Their service is along the line of culture and they will work to bring in the new type of education. Their emphasis will be upon the building of the antahkarana and upon the use of the mind in meditation.

Seed Group 5: Political organisers
The fifth group will concern itself with political factors in every nation. They will work in the world of human government, dealing with the problems of civilisation and with the relationships existing between nations. The bringing about of international understanding will be their major objective.

Seed Group 6: Religious workers
Their work is to formulate the universal platform of the new world religion. It is a work of loving synthesis and it will emphasize the unity and the fellowship of the spirit. This group is, in a pronounced sense, a channel for the activity of the second Ray of Love-Wisdom, that of the World Teacher–an office held at present by the Christ.

They will reveal the essential spirituality of all scientific work which is motivated by love of humanity and its welfare, which relates science and religion and brings to light the glory of God through the medium of His tangible world and His works.

Seed Group 8: Psychologists
They will form this next group and they will be concerned with the revelation of the fact of the soul and with the new psychology which will be based upon the seven ray types and the new esoteric astrology. Their major task will be to relate, through approved techniques, the soul and the personality, leading to the revelation of divinity through the medium of humanity.

Seed Group 9: Financers and economists
They will work with the energies and forces which express themselves through the interchange and the values of commerce; they will deal with the Law of Supply and Demand and with the great principle of Sharing which ever governs divine purpose.

Seed Group 10: Creative workers
They are communicators between the third aspect of Divinity, the Creative Aspect–as it expresses itself through the creative work and in response to the thought world–and the first aspect, Life. They link and blend life and form creatively. They are closely related to the ninth group because today, unknowingly and without any true understanding, they are bringing about a concretisation of the energy of desire.

The Avatar of Synthesis and the Ten Seed Groups

While humanity is ultimately in charge of its own destiny, we have never been left completely alone in our struggles. The wisdom tradition teaches that spiritually advanced Beings, often known to us as the Masters of Wisdom, carefully watch over the progress of the human race and send help and guidance as karma permits. We can always call upon these beloved Beings; and the science of invocation, particularly as explained in the Alice Bailey teachings, suggests that now is one of those pivotal moments in the history of humanity when our invocations for help are especially warranted.
Occasionally, the desperate cries of humanity become so powerful that they reach even beyond our own planetary system to Beings more evolved than the great Watchers of planet Earth. It’s been said that we have now entered one of those defining periods of human history, and this is directly connected to the incoming energies of synthesis reaching our planet today. Synthesis is a combination of first, second and seventh ray influences and relates to the power of Divine Will, combined with pure Love, and put into concrete practice by the energy of the seventh ray. Synthesis is a new energy which can ultimately produce the balance, peace, harmony and calm necessary to help humanity escape its current chaotic and fruitless struggles and move forward into the new era. This inpouring of the new energy of synthesis is bound with the work of the Avatar of Synthesis, associated with the Great Lodge of Sirius outside our solar system.
In his epic reference book, Fountain Source of Occultism, Theosophist G. de Purucker explained what a momentous, but fleeting, occasion it is for an avatar to intervene on behalf of humanity. He said, “the avatara is a most sublime event in the spiritual history of mankind – like the coming of a great light for purposes esoteric and wonderful; but the light comes and passes.” (pg. 490) He explained that an avatar arriving at opportune cyclical periods “is a flaming spiritual splendor which passes across the horizon of human history, stays for a while and then disappears.” (pg. 486) If we are to understand this correctly then, apparently there is a limited window of opportunity for humanity to respond to the help offered by an Avatar.
G. de Purucker further explained that avatars “are divine rays arising in the bosom of the divine monad and streaming downwards in their various descents in order to do their work in the world through their reflections or representatives on earth.” (pg. 488) However, because this great Being originates outside our solar system, the Avatar of Synthesis cannot descend lower than the cosmic mental plane. Therefore, these energies must be stepped down through those more highly evolved than ourselves, our planetary Hierarchy of Masters. Individuals or groups who can raise their consciousness to the mental plane and attune to this event and the work of the Masters are encouraged to help in this process.
This can best be done during meditation by first identifying ourselves from the Soul level, as Divine Souls who have incarnated here on Earth to do a job. Focus the consciousness in the cave in the center of the head and identify as the Conscious Soul Incarnate. Visualize a line of light extending upward from the center of the head through the top of the head to an overshadowing sphere of blue-white Christ Light, which symbolizes the Ashram of Synthesis and its center of Divine Purpose. Mentally link with the Hierarchy, the Avatar of Synthesis and the Ashram of Synthesis. Offer yourself in service as a conduit for and distributor of the energies of synthesis. Meditate upon the concept of synthesis and how it can help heal the ills of the Earth and remodify the old civilization into the bright new one we envision.
There is a relationship between the Avatar of Synthesis and the new civilization we desire, and ways do exist to help bring it into manifestation. The Alice Bailey teachings, for example, promote the idea of “ten seed groups” – ten different areas of concentration from which esoteric workers can choose to serve the Divine Plan and the creation of the new civilization for the new era. Following are some very, very brief descriptions of these groups and their main areas of focus:
Telepathic Communicators: receptive to impression from the Masters and each other; custodians of group purpose; work from the mental plane, in and with thought matter and the reception and direction of thought currents
Trained Observers: dissipate world glamour and illusion, mainly of the astral plane, through illumination and pouring in of Light
Magnetic Healers: work intelligently with the vital forces of the etheric body; mental, emotional and physical healing intermediaries between the spiritual planes and their physical plane patients
Educators: intermediaries between the higher and lower mind, bringing in the light of knowledge and the use of the mind in meditation
Political Organizers: promote international understanding through communication of the Divine Will into races and nations; deal with the world of human government and the problems of civilization
Workers in the Field of Religion: emphasize the unity and fellowship of the spirit; channel for the activity of the ray of Love-Wisdom and loving synthesis
Scientific Servers: reveal the essential spirituality of all scientific work which is motivated by love of humanity; relate science and religion, bringing to light the glory of God through the medium of the tangible world
Psychologists: reveal the fact of the Soul and the new psychology based on the seven ray types and esoteric astrology; relate the Soul and the personality
Economists: deal with the principle of sharing, which ever governs Divine Purpose
Creative Workers: creatively link and blend life and form; tasked with factually and scientifically relating all the other groups so that the Divine Plan will manifest as a result of this synthesis.
In the Alice Bailey work, The Externalization of the Hierarchy, this approach to synthesis is summarized as follows: “The future world order will be the effective expression of a fusion of the inner spiritual way of life and the outer civilized and cultural way of acting.” The one cannot be separated from the other. Permanent change will never come about just by working on the physical plane alone. We must incorporate spiritual principles, combined with actual work on the planes higher than the physical. We suggest that a perfect blending of this process lies in promoting the goals of the Avatar of Synthesis and by participating in the work of the ten seed groups.

Subjective Influences through the 10 Seed / Service Groups

For over a century, the Hierarchy and the Ashrams have been influencing Initiates, disciples, aspirants, and the men and women of goodwill around the world with ideas and impressions from the inner planes. As an impulse of evolution, the Seed Groups were first defined 90 years ago as a long term experiment. The word “seed” implies that it is the Ashram that “seeds” or communicates the essence of what a specific Group does and will become. The Hierarchy’s objective is to bring about cohesion and rhythmic activity for the unfoldment of the Divine Plan through the 10 Seed Groups and that each Group becomes a magnetic and focal point of energy with the intent of creating that same energy on the physical plane.
The Tibetan Master D.K. indicates that the Seed Groups represent new modes of communication and have literally been the creative source for both individuals and groups in the Social, Political, Cultural, Healing, Religious, Educational, Scientific, and Economic sectors of the world civilization.
Service workers, acting as the “hands and feet” of the Hierarchy operate with the objective of impressing the Plan on leaders of the 10 Seed Groups. Through their work and activities, they are subjectively transforming humanity and civilization. They acknowledge the existence of the separative mindset has persisted over the centuries. Holding a “we will work it out together” attitude, they Invoke and Evoke new ideas that are helping to guide humanity in seeing the limitations of selfishness, greed, bigotry, intolerance, materialism, and all its manifestation to create a new spiritually oriented civilization based, on right human relations.
In this overview, each of the 10 Seed Groups will be examined in how, at their core, they helping to transform humanity with a profound spiritual message. With the guidance of subjective energies from the inner planes, men and women of goodwill everywhere are helping to implement and facilitate a “Great Transformation” as we move towards the coming Aquarian Age. Discussion on the Seed Groups will be supplemented with background on the Plan, Hierarchal Conclaves, Stage of the Forerunner, Discipleship and how crisis, tension, and the concept purification provides the seeds for positive change and spiritual opportunity for all humanity.
